About: Mychal A. Bryan
Mychal A. Bryan is a Bahamian-Jamaican dance teacher and researcher specializing in the Cuban modern dance technique. He began his Cuban modern dance training in Santiago de Cuba with Teatro de la Danza del Caribe and was an apprentice to the company’s artistic director. He later moved to Havana, Cuba to deepen his study of the Cuban technique at the National School of Dance (ENA) and has since been invited to return to lead masterclasses on the Cuban technique at that school. He studied under and continues to work with masters of the Cuban modern dance technique — including Perla Rodriguez, Dulce Maria Vale, Lourdes Ulacia, Idania Wambrug, Odalys Segura, and Arlene Ramirez — to revise the national modern dance curriculum and preserve classical elements of the Cuban technique. Mychal is working on a book project alongside the leading authorities on the Cuban technique that will fully present the Cuban modern syllabus to an English-speaking audience for the first time. He is the founder of the Boston-based CUMODANCO (Cuban Modern Dance Company), where he trains professional dancers in the Cuban technique and Cuban repertory. Mychal is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) and respected author in the field of Western mysticism and classical astrology.
